Humminbird Helix 5 SI Reviews 2023

A good fish finder with good features is essential when you are navigating a lot of water. Fish finders are not cheap items so it comes as no surprise that anglers want to make sure they are getting the most for their money. After seeing some Humminbird Helix 5 SI reviews, we will be taking a closer look at one of the best fish finders you can use. The main selling points for this model are a bigger screen, more functionality, and affordability. We suddenly found this awesome fish finder after searching for the best ones on the market. True to that list, this fish finder is pretty great. It has a ton of features that make using it a pleasure for many people.

This is a good fish finder and we do not think many anglers would be disappointed to use it. It has got a slightly bigger screen than other models. Compared with other models, it has a competitive advantage with many other fish finders and does not sacrifice a whole lot if anything. A lot of other fish finders can cost anywhere from six hundred dollars all the way up to three thousand dollars and even more. Most people would usually agree that this is a spectacular amount of money they cannot afford. We think this one can fit you well for less.

Benefits Of The Humminbird Helix 5 SI Fish Finder

The very first things you may notice about this fish finder is the price. It has a pretty good price tag. It is usually less than five hundred dollars. Because of this, you will not need to take a mortgage out on your house to purchase one. This is important because some are so incredibly expensive that purchasing one is not an option. Many may suggest that a lower price always translates to a lower performer. With this one though, is just isn’t true. If you want an absolutely great addition to put on your boat, this one will serve you well. It also works well on kayaks.

It can fill the niche of people wanting to purchase their first fish finder and do not know which one to get. In short, this fish finder helps you find the fish. It helps you find them incredibly well. That is nowhere near everything it does either. With a built in GPS, it lets you mark your location so you never lose your way on the water. It helps navigate you to certain spots and comes preloaded with maps to four thousand lakes. It lets you mark certain fishing spots to come back to later. This is especially helpful to locate migrating fish such as during the spawning season.

It shows you how deep the water is in every lake by using a series of alternating blue colors. Scan imaging will tell you exactly what is on the bottom and you can even run the scanner with the chirp imaging and GPS together. That way, you see where you are in the lake, what is on the bottom, and if there are fish there. It even lets you know how fast you are going so you do not scare the fish away. It has a ton of different settings you can mess around with and run the way you want to. The way you should run it depends on your own preferences that you like to use.

How to Use The Humminbird Helix 5 SI Fish Finder Sonar

How to set it up is fairly straightforward. The device has simple controls that allow you to navigate effortlessly. Pressing the menu button twice will bring up your main menu settings. From here, you select one of seven options. You can select the option that tells you your depth, a fish identifier, a temperature checker, an off course alarm, an arrival feature, a drifting option, and or even the option that lets you know when you have a low battery. That is a ton of settings.

Pressing the left or right scrolling buttons will allow you to see all of your settings. You can modify them how you see fit. We suggest turning on four or five of your commonly used settings and leaving them enabled. All you have to do is mount the bracket onto your boat and plug the transducer into your transom. When that is done, all you have to do is power on the unit. Make sure to modify the factory settings to something that fits you much better.

This is a fish finding masterpiece that will satisfy many anglers especially if you are just looking for a high quality budget one to put on the boat. It features a built in GPS. Because of this, you will never get lost on the water. It lets you map out fishing spots and even create trails on the water itself. There is an instructional DVD that is included with the device. This means that if you do not know how to use it or set it up, you can put in the DVD to learn how. It has both down imaging as well as side imaging included. On fish finders, this is the best combo you can have.

This means that you will be able to see on the sides and the bottom of your boat to a certain degree. This helps you locate schools of fish, brush piles, submerged cover, and deep points. You will also love how simple it is to setup and use. Many people are not tech savvy so they are intimidated by a small computer. Even so, the user interface is easy to use and the easy press buttons are super easy to press meaning your fingers won’t get tired after prolonged use.

If anything, you should love the price of the unit for the quality you get. It is actually some of the best we have found. You can buy one that is super functional without taking an arm and a leg. If you are a boat angler, you will absolutely adore how it doesn’t drain the battery on your boat hardly at all. If you like fish finders that require low battery power to run, this is the one for you.

Who Is This Fish Finder For And Who Values It The Most

This will fit the angler who wants to get the best bang for their buck when it comes to using fish finders. This unit is easy to use, inexpensive, effective, and high quality. It will even be a nice addition to kayak fishermen who do not yet have a boat or prefer not to use one. It is not what I would call a budget finder. Yes, it does cost less than some but this is not at the expense of quality. For the money, its a great option to consider. It can fit many anglers and their budgets.

Luckily, it is also made by Humminbird which is the golden standard of fish finders today. This is intended to appeal to those who really want to start catching fish with electronics and have never done so. It is also a great addition to those do it yourself anglers that like to restore boats for a living or a side hustle. It is an entry level finder but veteran anglers can also appreciate its functionality coupled with its price point. It works very well for almost anyone who uses it.

What I Like About The Product

  • It works well
  • Has all features of a more expensive one
  • Budget friendly
  • Easy to install
  • Easy to use
  • Can use it as a GPS
  • Vey clear screen
  • Settings are adjustable
  • Can add an SD card

There are many features on the Helix that I know you will love to try. For starters, it does what it was designed to do extremely well. It has all of the features one would expect to have on more expensive fish finding hardware. Not only this but it accomplishes this all while keeping the price suitable for many people. It is pretty easy to install too. Most people can do it pretty easily. We love how user friendly it is for the average angler. We really love the GPS system. Its awesome.

You can map out coordinates as well as see where to go and where things are. The GPS acts like an electronic treasure map. We like that the screen is very clear and concise. We love that you can use it in the harshest sunlight and still see it very well. The settings are numerous in number and literally all of them are adjustable to fit you. Change this display and modify that setting. Its all your choice. You decide how you want your unit  to run and display things.

It also includes an SD card slot that you can use to upload and download software into your device. This can lead to better picture, more efficient tuning, advanced settings, and better recognition of fish. All this is possible even with the smaller price tag. Again, I want to emphasize that price tag but realistically, its a value of something special.

What I Don’t Like About The Product

  • Doesn’t work well in saltwater
  • Smaller screen
  • Mounting brackets are not excellent

There are a few things that we wish could be improved on this machine. Still, my opinion thinks that these inconveniences are minor and can be overlooked. The very first annoyance that you will find is that the device does not work well in saltwater. The device never has any problems setting up on a saltwater boat or resisting the elements but saltwater is just to deep. If you are going to go out on a boat in oceanic waters at all, chances are likely that you want to go deep sea fishing or something similar. Otherwise, you can just fish from shore or a kayak.

Some people may not appreciate the smaller screen that it comes with. Even so, some may. The screen is smaller than on some other competing models. Some may like it and some may not. The screen is not what I would call very small. i think manageable is a better word to use. This means that the smaller screen can be a little harder to use for someone who has vision problems. Many fish finders have bigger screens but are also much more expensive.

The most common complaint I have heard about is an issue regarding the mounting brackets. The mounting brackets are mediocre and not incredibly excellent. They still work but they leave a little something else to be desired. We would have loved to see them made out of metal or some other strong and durable material. You also cannot do a whole lot of adjusting to them. You are left with a few ways and that is it. The brackets it comes with will work fine but it may not fit you specifically and you may need to choose another way to mount it or consider another unit entirely. Great unit to use. Fixing the mounting brackets would make it so much better.

In Concluding – An Excellent Fish Finder For The Money

With the Helix Humminbird offering a little bit of everything an angler would need, its a great investment for the beginning angler up to advanced. The price and value you get within this gem makes it a great option regardless if you are a weekend angler or a seasoned pro. It offers many features and it certainly can fit many, many, people. 1. Seems like a pretty good fish finder to me. Is this a good fish finder to give to someone else who just got a boat? Its Halloween now and I know someone who would love getting a fish finder for Christmas but he wants one that doesn’t cost a house mortgage. What do you think? I really am thinking about what to get.

These seem quite expensive to many. How much more use do you get as price increases? Is it much more?

    • Yes. Its hard to get one when they cost some $$$. Fish finders seem to be a waste of money to some but trophy fishermen who do tournaments may pay for it. It may pay for itself. One thing I know is that I will have to hold off on getting one for now!
